Freestyle Polers Take the Fourth Ward!
November 13, 2011, 4:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Free Class in Freestyle Poling) at Historic Fourth Ward Park, by the Lake
Freesytle Polers are taking the Historic Fourth Ward Park on Sunday, November 13th, and you can take it with us! Join Crossover Movement Arts and Zentropy for a tour of Historic Fourth Ward Park and an introduction to Freestyle Poling. This participatory Art on the BeltLine event offers an opportunity to experience more fully the beauty and the intriguing sight lines and perspectives of this new BeltLine park.
Freestyle Polers vault over obstacles and fly through the air using wooden staffs in a dance form created by Crossover Movement Arts Artistic Director Blake Dalton. Dalton will give a free class in Freestyle Poling at 3:30 p.m., at the south end of the lake near the amphitheater stage in Historic Fourth Ward Park. No prior dance experience is required to take the class, though those with generally good physical fitness will get the most out of it. Please wear comfortable, non-constricting clothing. Those who take the class will have the opportunity to perform in the Freestyle Poling performance.
The performance will begin at 4:30 p.m., starting at the north end of the lake, near the waterfalls, and progressing around the lake. Audience members should gather at this point and join us on foot as we explore the landscape in ways only Freestyle Polers can while Zentropy crafts a rich experimental jazz soundscape off the echoing walls of the basin. (The park and the performance route are handicap accessible.)
The performance will culminate on the amphitheater stage, where the veteran Freestyle Polers of Crossover Movement Arts will show off some daredevil poling moves as Zentropy gets the whole park grooving.
